# Radar

> Radar is a free, open-source mobile app for iOS and Android that combines end-to-end encrypted messaging (built on the Signal protocol) with a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet, so you can send Bitcoin over the Lightning Network inside a chat as easily as sending a text. Radar is made by Radar Chat, Inc., from the team behind Cake Wallet.

Key facts:

- Product: Radar ("Radar Chat"). Tagline: "Chats and sats in one place."
- Company: Radar Chat, Inc. Made by the team behind Cake Wallet.
- Platforms: iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play, Obtainium, or the .apk from GitHub Releases).
- Messaging: messages and calls are always end-to-end encrypted, built on the Signal protocol. Message history is stored only on your device. Radar runs on Signal's messaging network, so existing Signal contacts come with you and no new account is needed.

- Custody: self-custodial. Keys and funds stay on your device; Radar never holds, controls, or can recover your Bitcoin. Back up your seed phrase offline.
- Price: free to download. No ads, no trackers, no subscription required.
- Open source: AGPL-3.0, at https://github.com/radar-labs/Radar and https://github.com/radar-labs/radar-android
- Not currently supported: built-in buying or selling of Bitcoin for fiat, and swaps. You can receive Bitcoin over Lightning from another wallet, an exchange, or a friend on Radar.
