Frequently asked questions

What is Radar?

Radar combines end-to-end encrypted messaging with a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet that supports the Lightning Network — so you can chat and send sats in the same conversation.

Are my messages private?

Yes. Messages and calls are always end-to-end encrypted, built on the Signal protocol. No one — including Radar — can read them, and your message history is stored only on your device.

How is Radar related to Signal?

Radar is built on Signal's messaging network and its end-to-end encryption protocol — the Android app is a fork of Signal-Android — so the people you already talk to come with you, with no new account necessary. Radar is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Signal Messenger, LLC.

Does Radar hold my Bitcoin?

No. Radar is self-custodial: your keys and funds are yours alone, stored on your device. Radar never takes custody of, holds, or controls your Bitcoin.

Does Radar cost anything?

No. Radar is free: no subscriptions, no paid tiers, and no hidden fees.

Is Radar open source?

Yes. Radar is open source under the GNU AGPLv3 license. The iOS app is at github.com/radar-labs/Radar and the Android app at github.com/radar-labs/radar-android.

I lost my seed phrase and Radar account — can you recover my wallet?

Unfortunately not. Because Radar is self-custodial, only you hold your keys — we have no copy of your seed phrase and no way to recover funds. Write your seed phrase down and store it somewhere safe, offline, so that you can always restore your funds even if you lose access to your Radar account for any reason.

Can I buy or cash out Bitcoin inside Radar?

Not currently. Radar has no built-in fiat on-ramps or off-ramps and no swaps. You can receive Bitcoin over Lightning from another wallet, an exchange, or a friend on Radar.

A payment looks stuck or failed — what should I do?

Lightning payments usually settle in about a second. If one looks pending, check your connection and give it a moment — failed payments are refunded to your balance automatically. Still stuck? Email us and we will be happy to help!

How do I delete my account?

Use account deletion inside the app (Settings). Just uninstalling the app removes your local data but does not unregister your account — and remember to move your funds out first.

How do I report a bug or ask something else?

Email [email protected] — include your device model, OS version, and what you expected vs. what happened. We typically respond within 24 hours.
